CEREBRAL CURSE
Promo ’25 (2025)

Churning within the bowels of Catalonia, Cerebral Curse is a new demented death-doom duo that is responsible for this heap of horror. Simply entitled Promo ’25, this is one of my favourite demo releases of the year.

Beginning like some sort of primordial grind riddled with disease, the three-song demo begins with ‘Stenched Cerebral Fluids’. The initial sludge riffs carve up the wet soil while from the mouth of Ernesto Plazas erupts a deep, threatening chesty roar. The music speeds up, but the vocals remain embedded in that cavernous coffin, distantly echoing like some long forgotten beast chained up in some infernal domain.

This release from the Spanish band stinks of evil and damp, the instrumentation weighed down by dollops of writhing black mould. ‘Ascendency Through The Catacombs’ is one of the ugliest slugs you’ll hear this year, a filthy oozing death-doom expression that makes me salivate in an anticipation for a full-length release.

Some of this stuff has that ghoulish Incantation-style of cold yet humid utterances. It’s basically like being in an ancient suffocating network of caves and then succumbing to an anomalous rush of air from its bowels.

‘Fetid Oppression’ brings more sepulchral gnashing to the fray; the dismal drums resonate through thick clouds of ash before the break into chilly pace. The chords bluster as possessed swirls, rounding off an abominable cauldron of primitive plumes.

For those of you interested, the demo is available here.
