EMACIATED
Crucified From The Inside (2022)

Emerging from the darkest corner of New Mexico, Emaciated announces itself with a Slayer-esque riff and so begins their five-track demo, Crucified From The Inside. Emaciated are a duo and the musical landscape they construct is one consisting of rather crisp, often nifty riffage and solid production.

Although the twosome is able to craft macabre segments, such as with ‘A Stunning Display’, there remains a pacier feel to proceedings as the band rattle along at a steady pace, and provide extra whip due to the vocal lashes. In no way is this sodden, gloomy bogged down death metal, but extreme death metal delivered with bursts of speed and vim.

A track such as ‘Starved Of Delight’ features some wondrously melancholic soloing and equally downbeat percussion, while the vocals are hefty barks. Even so, there are those consistent thrash grinds peppering the demo, more so on a track like ‘Climate Apocalypse’ with its Swedish lashings whereby Emaciated becomes a hostile beast of unrelenting power.

This is a fierce demo, there’s no question of that. Closing song ‘Toil In The Soil’ begins with suspenseful effect and builds from a doom laden formation of heavy, plodding percussion and rainy, morbid axe whines. The pace quickens stage by stage as Emaciated unravels itself within this sturdy near eight-minute track, bestial in vocal delivery and gnashing like well-oiled machinery.

In a sense the no frills cover art typifies the no nonsense sound of this decent 20-minute escapade, so grab yourself a copy if you like rollicking straight-up death metal.
