SONATA ARCTICA Release Tenth Studio Album ‘Talviyö’
September 6th, 2019

Kemi, Finland-based melodic metal band Sonata Arctica issued tenth full-length studio album Talviyö (English translation: ‘Winter Night’) on September 6th, 2019 through Nuclear Blast Records.

Keyboardist Henrik Klingenberg commented: “The wait is finally over, now all of you will hear what we’ve been working on for the past year or so as we present our latest album Talviyö. It was quite an experience getting this album ready for you guys and for the first time ever, we had some outside help from our very own Mikko Tegelman who produced the album. We focused on playing live this time and I think the album really captures how Sonata Arctica sounds like today. It will be a blast to go out and perform this new music alongside selected cuts from our catalogue. See you soon and meanwhile we hope you enjoy the album as much as we did making it.

“The idea was to create an album that is musically in line with at least the previous two albums,” said vocalist Tony Kakko. “I am very happy with the songs and the general mood of the album. Some career highlights there, I feel.”

“We recorded a bunch of kick-ass songs and tried some new stuff as well. I’m really proud of how we managed to record the band sounding more live, playing together instead of just tracking everything one by one,” further stated keyboardist Henrik Klingenberg.

A series of trailers issued to promote Talviyö can be viewed below.

Talviyö was recorded between September 2018 and May 2019, and produced by Mikko Tegelman and Sonata Arctica in Studio57. Additional recordings took place in various other places. Mixing was handled by Mikko Tegelman and Pasi Kauppinen, with mixing being handled by Svante Forsbäck for Chartmakers.

“Mikko produced the album and he really managed to push us to do our best, even with the more experimental stuff,” said Klingenberg. “Working with an outside producer was the biggest new thing we tried this time.”
