MANILLA ROAD Founder Mark ‘The Shark’ Shelton Dies Aged 60

Mark ‘The Shark’ Shelton, guitarist and founding member of Wichita, Kansas-based metal group Manilla Road died from a heart attack on July 27th, 2018 at the age of 60. He passed away in Germany where the band had performed at the Headbangers Open Air festival in Brande-Hörnerkirchen the night before.

Lead vocalist Bryan Patrick commented: “I’m very sorry to announce today that my longtime brother and best friend since 1981 has passed through the Halls Of Valhalla. Mark W. Shelton, may you rest in peace!

“My heart is shattered. Please take time today to love your loved ones and hold them close.”

Manilla Road formed in 1977 in Wichita, Kansas, the name devised while Shelton and original drummer Ben Munkirs were drinking at a kitchen table one night, watching Monty Python’s Flying Circus. The band embarked on a hiatus during part of the 90s, but returned.

Eighteenth studio record To Kill A King was released in June 2017 via Golden Core Records.
