KORPIKLAANI Issue Lyric Video For ‘Kuin korpi nukkuva’ Track
October 25th, 2018

Lahti, Finland-based folk metal group Korpiklaani have released an official lyric video for the track ‘Kuin korpi nukkuva’ (English translation: “Like A Sleeping Forest”). Created by Jan Yrlund, the clip can be viewed below.

Founding member Jonne Järvelä stated: “For some reason, while recording the first demo of this song I kept hearing it as a traditional tango. I haven’t been able to drop that thought, and while playing this live I still hear the tango and drag behind the beat like [late Finnish tango singer] Topi Sorsakoski. I wanted to leave a trace of that original form and therefore there is a bit of tango in the end of the song. So the tango is not a joke even if it may sound that way. Of course it is also possible that there is a tongue in cheek, but that was the case with Sorsakoski too.

“In a certain way this is a nice and light song, but still also strong and even a little sad. Tuomas Keskimäki’s lyrics are in line with that. The basic message of the lyrics is the importance of living in the moment, which is also one the fine features of Korpiklaani. This band has always been able to seize the moment and enjoy life right there and then.”

Korpiklaani issued tenth full-length studio album Kulkija (English translation: “Wanderer”) on September 7th, 2018 through Nuclear Blast Records.

Järvelä commented: “We’ve never been as satisfied with a final result as we are with Kulkija. We tried to keep it very natural, and that’s what you’ll soon be able to hear clearly. Like the wanderer, this album is a journey, one that makes you feel good. Stay tuned!”

Sami Perttula added: “Kulkija isn’t just a collection of songs, it’s a ‘real’ album with a unique atmosphere guiding the listeners through a long journey. All songs were well prepared in advance and nothing needed to be arranged in the studio. Tuomas (fiddle) and I had lots of space to develop and play the folk arrangements.”

Cover artwork duties fell to Jan Yrlund, once again.
