Bret Hoffmann passed away on July 7th, 2018 following a battle with stage four colon cancer at the age of 51.

Paying tribute to his former bandmate, Malevolent Creation guitarist Philip Fasciana commented: “Can’t believe my best friend / brother has passed away! 40 years of friendship and 30 years of playing music together. There will never be ever anyone I loved more than Bret Hoffmann and writing music and traveling the world with. He was truly the best friend I ever had and will miss him deeply. R.I.P. my brother!!!!!”

Malevolent Creation was formed in 1987, with Bret Hoffmann handling vocal duties. The band’s inaugural trio of full-lengths were issued through Roadrunner Records, namely; The Ten Commandments (1991), Retribution (1992), and Stillborn (1993). Hoffmann departed in 1993, returning in 1998 for a three-year stint which saw the releases of The Fine Art Of Murder (1998) and Envenomed (2000).

Leaving once more, Bret Hoffmann returned again, his final tenure covering three outings in the form of Doomsday X (2007), Invidious Dominion (2010), and Dead Man’s Path (2015). Hoffman exited for what would prove to be the final occasion in 2016.

New York City-based death metal ensemble Fire For Effect, including Hoffmann, had signed an album contract with Agonia Records, the news of which was revealed on June 20th, 2018. A debut full-length studio album was slated for issue later in 2018.
