EXECRATED
Mortal Crucifixion EP

Self-released (2026)
Rating: 7.5/10

Mortal Crucifixion is the debut EP from a miserable Romanian combo who formed last year. Troduta, Max, Sebi, Sofi and Viktor seem like a nice bunch, but there’s no joy to behold within the squelching folds of this solid effort. I’ve always liked my death metal unhygienic and so Mortal Crucifixion is right up my filthy street when it comes to sordid behaviour.

There’s just a handful of tracks here, all encased within a soggy membrane of sodden silt as ‘Haemoatrophy’ grinds from deathly chugs to hyper blast beats. The vocals are that archetypal puke growl vomited from the back of the throat and echoing with ghoulish glee. ‘Blasphemous Carnage’ emerges with equal gory gusto, blazing its bludgeoning through a cavernous punky gallop. Even with the blasts of vile bluster there is a deep groove running through the compost heap.

The title track brings a killer solo which squirms through the dense riffage and kicking drums. Again there’s that show of putrid pace and Carcass-esque juggernaut grinding. To an extent, the vocals act as squabbling, chomping discharge leaking over the gruesome structures. ‘The Majestic Decay Of Inner Transience’ closes proceedings as a good, varied death metal cut brimming with eeriness and atmosphere with its feast of foul doominess.

It’s great to see new death metal bands emerging with EPs of this calibre. 2026 should be another rollicking and rotten year.
