BLISTEROUS
Grotesque Prosection EP

Headsplit (2025)
Rating: 6.5/10

This relatively short six-song debut EP from Finland’s Blisterous begins with a sound best described as a bucket of soupy vomit being stirred. Sludgy, gloopy… in fact, I’m actually disappointed when the bubbling slop turns to a fast whisk of blast beats.

Grotesque Prosection is very much a 15 minute goregrind exercise that simply appeals to me more when everything is slowed down. From here on in though it’s the usually pathological jargon with song titles like ‘Vesical Trauma Haematuria’ and ‘Haemotoxic Puncture’, all splattered together with Blu Tack straight from the Carcass factory of forensic fornication.

Killer sludge riffs and cereal box drumming is aplenty here, with ‘Neurocysticercosis’ being a filthy example of the Finnish band’s ability to grind with catchy aplomb. With ‘Hypodermal Desquamation’ you get the best of both worlds; churning cesspools of sick riffage and faster blasts led by bile-filled vocals from Riku Ryynänen. The slower segments are genuine artery clogging grooves that the most deranged of souls can dance along to, case in point ‘Horns Of Sarcoma’. Grotesque Prosection is solid unhealthy goregrind for those hell-bent on the unhygienic.
