The hilariously named Grandmaster Flush is the person behind Cronenberg, a fiendish Nova Scotia, Canada-based cacophony that is now onto its second full-length offering which has emerged just a few years after the impressive 2020 debut, Gorehammer.
For any death metal fans who like slurping vocals then Cronenberg will whet your appetite, as will those gnarly riffs which tumble and rumble in a slightly unorthodox manner that at times isn’t too removed from a punky attitude. It’s still very much all delivered in a blackened death metal vein with a rather mechanical drum rattle, but I really do dig the catchiness some of the tracks offer up.
‘Thing’ is such a squelching tumult you can’t help tap a severed limb along too, and those rough n’ ready riffs continue throughout what is essentially a despicable opus of filth. The monstrous tides of ‘Hideous Son’ are as equally gnashing and visceral, as are the barrages of ‘Chewed Up And Spat Out’. ‘Consumed From Within’ showcases the raw aggression of Cronenberg, and then there are the melodious streaks of ‘Psionic Monster’ – a gargantuan sounding rattle of commanding vocal chants.
Any fans of horror-obsessed death metal will revel in the unsavoury and graven images this boiling, toiling monstrosity of miasma coughs up as each vile riff spits and bubbles like some geyser of festering gore.
