The rather busy looking cover artwork and logo may lead some into thinking that this Fort Worth, Texas-based band dabbles in gore grind. At times the combo do veer into such territory as there’s something about that drum clank, and the vocals of Brad Schnaubert certainly drift into that incomprehensible, splattery chatter of varying snaps, rasps, chesty coughs and grisly gurgles.
The drum sound is rather awful at times but there are still some good, chewy mid-paced grinds on offer here mostly thanks to the gore-soaked chords of Nate Garcia. I also like the fact that the band litters this nine-track opus with numerous samples; those of particular interest and amusement starting on the rampant ‘Nailed To A Tree’ and ‘Kemper’.
For the most part, Macabre Eternal’s second full-length studio outing is a messy sort of release that rarely displays a subtlety and clearly gets great joy from its demented flailing where blast-beats are torrential.
I prefer this sort of stuff with a slower approach and ‘DoomSayer’ promises that initially then goes into hyper mode and pig squeal vocalisations. It’s the sort of stuff I often despise, because for all its apparent extremity it’s usually quite laughable. ‘BloodLust’, ‘Death Parade’ and opener ‘In Mourning’ are all rapid expressions that flit by with no real effect, but if you like splattery, death grind of no fixed address then good for you!.
