Five years after their hilariously titled debut full-length Seasonings In The Abyss, and 2022 follow up Gallery Of Skewered Swine, Davenport, Iowa-based duo Pit Lord returns with more barbeque obsessed death metal.

With a take on the title of Dismember’s 1995 album Massive Killing Capacity, this 11 track heap is very much goofy grind from the overcooked side of novelty extreme metal. Having said that, Pit Lord knows how to provide riffs that are chunkier than the rear end of a giant hog.

Musically and vocally it’s not as bad as you might expect, although lyrically songs such as ’Mandatory Burgercide’, ‘Done As Shit’ and ‘Chili’s Baby-Back Ribs’ leave a lot to be desired. Even so, Massive Grilling Capacity is a solid death metal album and songs such as ‘Meat Cup’ chug with a real intensity as the vocals channel an early 90s chop.

You can expect the usual flurries of speed alongside meatier mid-tempo malevolence. ‘Baby Griller’, for example, is an absolute beast with its churning chords, as is ‘Kings Of The Carnivorous Creation’, and while the duo doesn’t necessarily resort to grindcore there are plenty of borderline blast beats to contend with.

I’d be more than happy if Pit Lord steered clear of the food-related samples and lyrics for the sake of becoming a serious death metal act. They’ve certainly got the chops… and I don’t mean pork.
