I’ve become so besotted with Italian band Elle Tea that I just want them to release a double album of new material to quench my thirst. Into The Fall, dressed in more luscious artwork courtesy of main man Leonardo Trevisan, is the sort of EP you can relax to. After venturing into the cover art you can then let the waves of the music wash over you.
If you’re not familiar with Elle Tea by now, then shame on you. The brand of hard rock is somewhat unique yet familiar as Elle Tea sublimely craft fluid and comforting melodies. You get treated to 21 minutes of music here, consisting of five tracks that I wouldn’t be ashamed of describing as “lovely”! You get soothed by a smooth amalgamation of acoustic passages and progressive rock alongside a Thin Lizzy-style of coolness and dreamy lucidity, as showcased on the opening title track. There’s a mix of the majestic and the understated as the instruments amble in an endearing and pleasant manner to the antiquarian and cosmic narration of Trevisan.
If Elle Tea was a member of the opposite sex you’d fall very quickly for their charms. Even with the more upbeat rocker ‘Alive For Revenge’ there’s still that embrace that welcomes you as you can’t help but stare dreamily into the contours of the cover art. The lyrics entice you into the kaleidoscopic yet melancholic psyche of Trevisan as mid-tempo rocker ‘I Gave Away’ rides in after an acoustic intro.
It seems that behind every pastoral landscape there is a hint of forlorn grey, particularly in the lyrics of closer ‘Where Light Arrives’ where Leonardo Trvisan speaks of lost love. By creating technicolor dreamscapes, such as on instrumental ‘Rising Winds’ and folk prog meandering, Elle Tea have all bases covered when it comes to constructing engaging heavy rock that transports you to places you never knew existed. Rock and metal should fire the imagination and fuel the soul, and Elle Tea achieves both with such elegant nonchalance.
