Here is a release that reminds me of one of those early 90s extreme metal bands that cleverly fused together grinding death metal and ashen, industrial flair while remaining bleak and suffocating but with a hardcore sludge stance.
Acid Burns is an EP that’s been constructed on choking fumes, billowing thick smoke and rusty steel frames; it doesn’t require gasoline to fuel it, just congealed blood and splinters of bone. Imagine then a humid, cavernous nightmare boasting a soundtrack of 13 songs crafted by Melbourne, Australian-based duo Tim (bass and vocals) and Crispin (drums and vocals).
Great dripping walls of sludge exude a humid menace to the soundtrack of tortured gasps and deathly gurgles. Wrøng ram 13 tracks into a 14 minute duration, so it’s somewhat of a blur to a rusty generator puffing its last breath on shaky foundations. It’s all an abrasive, oxidized mash of metallic grinding, steaming pistons, hostile hydraulics and persistent hammering.
Some of the vocals veer towards an indecipherable hardcore slur while the cacophony of roadworks could be applied when describing the musical rants. This is hard to consume in spite of several listens, but Acid Burns still melts the ears.
