RIPPED TO SHREDS Release Third Studio Album ‘劇變’ (‘Jubian’)
October 14th, 2022

California-based death metal band Ripped To Shreds issued third full-length studio album 劇變 (pronounced ‘Jubian’, which translates to ‘Upheaval’) on October 14th, 2022 through Relapse Records.

The outing can be streamed in its entirety via YouTube below.

劇變 (‘Jubian’) was recorded and mixed by vocalist / guitarist Andrew Lee in his home studio, and mastered by Damian Herring at Subterranean Watchtower.

Opening track ‘Violent Compulsion For Conquest’ features lyrics inspired by the Mukden Incident, while ‘漢奸 (Race Traitor)’ describes Lee’s experience as a minority in America. ‘Reek Of Burning Freedom’, meanwhile, is “an anti-war song” that incites to remind its discerning listers of the United States’ “indiscriminate bombing” campaign waged on North Korea during the Korean War.

Cover artwork duties were designed by Chinese artist Guang Yang, who did the same for its predecessor. The statue on the cover is Mazu, the Taiwanese sea goddess, the setting of the painting inspired by several of the local temples Lee has visited in Taiwan. “I felt like it was important to have something standing in for Chinese people,” Lee said.

The track listing is as follows:

01. ‘Violent Compulsion For Conquest’
02. ‘Split Apart by Five Chariots’
03. ‘獨孤九劍 日月神教第三節’ (‘In Solitude – Sun Moon Holy Cult Pt 3’)
04. ‘Harmonious Impiety’
05. ‘漢奸’ (‘Race Traitor’)
06. ‘Reek Of Burning Freedom’
07. ‘Peregrination To The Unborn Eternal Mother’
08. ‘Scripture Containing The Supreme Internal Energy Arts That Render The Practitioner Invincible Throughout The Martial Realm’

Ripped To Shreds’ line-up is as follows:

Andrew Lee (vocals and guitars)
Michael Chavez (guitars and backing vocals)
Ryan (bass)
Brian Do (drums)

Directed by Kevin Burleigh, a music video was filmed for the track ‘Reek Of Burning Freedom’.

Second studio record (pronounced as ‘Luan’, which translates to ‘Chaos’) was released in April 2020 via Pulverised Records.
