RANCID AMPUTATION
Vile Human Taste EP

Morbid Chapel (2022)
Rating: 7/10

Here’s some filthy US death metal to wet your lips. Rancid Amputation is a one man project and this debut EP boasts a handful of juicy cuts that have a loose, squalid vibe.

Opener ‘Corpse Of Living Dead’ has some decent drum patterns that are unpredictable at times, which adds to the element of surprise. For the most part the vocals sound like he is guzzling a milkshake of human slurry, so there’s a strong, almost sloppy feel but it all adds to the horror.

‘Suffer In Comatose’ provides a devastatingly unhealthy chug that churns up mud, blood n’ bone. The track then speeds up but remains slightly unorthodox due to its rhythms. I assume drums are programmed, but I could be wrong. Either way, this wistful of death metal salivates from all the right orifices.

Elsewhere, ‘Dread Inside’ has a killer opening groove before gnashing like the jaws of a steely hellhound, ‘Crooked’ also supplies an intriguing groove hinting at Swedish design, while ‘No Sorrow Left’ adds a dose of pace.

It’s not murky death metal, but it remains raw and energetic, spitting chunks of flesh with its guitar tone that remains the key factor. I’ve spun this a few times and revel in its energy and crispness, and you should too.
