INTRANCED
Intranced EP

Self-released (2022)
Rating: 8/10

Intranced is another promising US metal act, only this time if you blink you might miss the fact that this Los Angeles combo features Holy Grail vocalist James-Paul Luna, Fortress guitarist Fili Bibiano, and Poisoned Chalice drummer Ben Richardson.

This six-track affair has a running time just shy of 20 minutes, but it’s a very fluid opus that runs through the ears like liquid gold, mainly due to the smooth yet versatile vocals and those simplistic yet highly flammable riffs.

If you like solid, evocative 80s metal then you can’t go wrong with this bunch who deliver strong melodies combined with blazing leads, rattling drums and fluent bass licks. It’s all here, wrapped in a cosy / cheesy cover but for the most part played serious as the guys bewitch us with the soaring ‘Upside Down’, the speedy ‘Dream Lover’, the crisp yet stormily soulful ‘El Gran Deseo’ and the galloping fizz of the title track.

These four tracks are sandwiched between two short yet tidy intro / outro segments, but the key here is how effortlessly yet energetically the trio constructs its memorable ditties. I refer back to the title track with its exuberant zip and the effective yet simple lyrics which builds towards the powerful chorus.

Effective and evocative metal it is then. Intranced shows dollops of promise with their semi-Gothic, yet almost dreamy rivers of fluidity where all departments work in tandem to create well-greased cogs in what can only be described as a well-oiled metal machine.
