FROZEN BLOOD
Revenge EP

Dry Cough / Death In Pieces / Frozen Screams / Adirondack Blackmass (2023)
Rating: 8/10

With arguably one of the most organic and morbid releases to emerge so far in 2023, Chile’s Frozen Blood doesn’t just nod back to the death metal old school, they literally revel in the innards of the genre.

What you get here are five tracks – including a cover of Slayer’s ‘Die By The Sword’ – that are channelled through a dank rattling bass, an equally fetid guitar tone, drums which stink of decay, and vocals straight from the humid cellar.

Frozen Blood is a two-piece consisting of vocalist S.A. (Sick Stabber) and multi-instrumentalist A.A. (Devoured Of Christian Souls), and what they have created here just gets me chomping at the manky cadaver for a full-length. This is utterly rancid and downtrodden death metal that begins with the fusty title track before ending in that admirable Slayer cover, which to an extent isn’t necessary but hey, it’s all good, ghoulish fun, as are the songs sandwiched in-between, particularly ‘Mercilessly’ which again comes with an utterly dirty riff and that filthy percussive slap which suffocates you like a wet blanket.

Revenge is a stagnant, compost-ridden EP riddled with grubs and billowing a stench that will clog even the most hardened of arteries.
