BLOOD NATURE
Chopped Up At The Altar EP

Iron Fortress (2024)
Rating: 7/10

Chopped Up At The Altar is the debut EP from international brutal death metal act Blood Nature, featuring five mostly fast heaps of blood-spattered horror stories boasting a snare that rips your ears off.

Whether it’s the deep gouging menace of ‘Charbroil’ or the hyper gore blasts of ‘Burial Site’, this is a grim, underground expression that boils akin to one of those early 90s demo tapes you obtained from a friend of a friend. Guttural, lo-fi, stodgy and repugnant, the quintet of meaty songs reward far more than the ten minute duration. Even with the spicier, speedier attacks everything sounds dense and deep like a vast blackened gorge lined with humid walls of flesh.

‘Laid Up And Gutted’ churns like a vat of stirred body fat, spearing with its grotesque percussion which is arguably the star of this release. There are no frills to speak of, Blood Nature just exists to pummel and then drag your sorry corpse into its putrid domain, but if it’s organic and fusty straightforward death metal you want then tuck in. My favourite track: ‘Anabiosis’.
