TRASTORNED
Into The Void

Dying Victims Productions (2023)
Rating: 8/10

It’s important that bands such as Trastorned exist because it reminds us – well, some of us – what thrash metal is and isn’t. Sounding like it was concocted in the mid-80s, Into The Void is the debut full-length album from Chilean maniacs Trastorned who formed in 2009 out of Santiago.

What you get here are wild solos, fast-paced riffs, hammering percussion and bass and seething vocal assaults. I guess this sort of unholy barrage is well-oiled in South America, after all, the continent has been producing high grade shit like this for decades, and so long may it continue.

These guys manage to inject the ears with rusty aggression, but never once do they sacrifice a great melody (‘Metal Violence’). And then there are those crossover gang chants (‘Witch Hunt’) and downright blazing and almost technical dramas (‘Insanity’).

Sometimes you just want to be hit by an authentic missile that doesn’t peter out, and this is the record you need to start your new year. Sure, there is no real room for originality but this unruly quartet knows how to mash together stuff like Vio-lence and Demolition Hammer… and with extra hot spiciness, particularly in the savage solos of Felipe González.

While this record may be overlooked by many, to me Into The Void is a fine example as to how 80s thrash should be worshipped.
