TERRÖRHAMMER
Gateways To Hades

Osmose Productions (2022)
Rating: 7.5/10

It’s good to see these Serbian Satanists finally get round to unleashing their second full-length studio album. After all, it’s been seven years since 2015 debut platter Under The Holy Command.

The Terrörhammer sound is still that nihilistic blend of black metal and ripping thrash yet circa Accept, Destruction and hyper Motörhead, particularly with speeding opener ‘At Dawn We Attack’. There’s plenty of melody too which is a nice surprise for anyone who expects to be pummelled to death by one-dimensional war metal. The vocals are snappy, the percussion is a blast to behold and the guitars and bass just frolic in almost playful manner in spite of the intent to slay.

This album offers up nine furious tracks epitomised by the 80s fire of ‘Midnight Patrol’ with its juddering bass and mid-tempo angst. Meanwhile, the title track is catchy and hasty and runs into the glorious gallop of ‘Transylvanian Whore’.

Terrörhammer have no interest in offering intricacy. Instead, you get hammered by a batch of rust-ridden slabs which are happy to worship at the beer cans of Motörhead, as evidenced throughout. But for extra blackened evil then dive into the oily waters of ‘Tronized Goat Master’ or the flashing brilliance of ‘Blizzard Of Blood’, the latter featuring a guest solo from former Tormentor and Nifelheim guitarist Tamás Buday .

From its arse to its teeth, down to its feet, Gateways To Hades is the sort of hellish tirade you need to get whipped by every now and then to prompt cranial combustion.
