If these Swedish hard rockers don’t get the success they deserve this time round then there’s something seriously wrong with the rock world. It pains me to say it but Teaser Sweet have been grafting away for over a decade, resulting in a fourth full-length album, yet very little attention. Their brand of New Wave Of British Heavy Metal swagger really comes to the fore on Night Stalker, what I believe is their best album to-date.

After a brief intro, the title track kicks in with a deftness, immediately hooking into the ear canals with a coolness and nonchalance. As the album reveals itself further there are subtle notes of early Iron Maiden, Saxon, Thin Lizzy, Black Sabbath, via their 1975 Sabotage opus, and one of my favourite and sadly defunct bands, Young Heart Attack from Texas.

Vocalist Therese Damberg is somewhat understated in her style, breezily wafting through each song as the rest of the posse orchestrate a modest batch of infectious numbers that are kept simple in their vaguely vintage style. ‘Deep In The Woods’ is familiar and formulaic, but then again there’s a cosiness as the combo drift towards shades of a less deadlier Lucifer, ambling rather than sneering.

At their most cutting, Teaser Sweet throws out some driving Judas Priest-styled dynamics in the axe work of Marcus Damberg, but at the other end of the spectrum there are light rock sensibilities that can shift between poppy and bluesy. ‘Blue Sky’ entices as it smoulders, ‘Turn Me On’ struts before introducing a Black Sabbath-esque subtlety, ‘Living In Sin’ has a Kiss-type clunky swagger, while ‘Cold Is The Fire’ rattles like early W.A.S.P. with a NWOBHM edge.

There’s a lot of good stuff here, all encased within a rigid rock n’ roll framework. Rarely would I term a hard rock album as pleasant, but it certainly is a word that applies here. Nice, friendly non-violent fun, Teaser Sweet rocks.
