SLAUGHTERED PRIEST
Bang Your Head For Satan

Evil Spell / Undercover (2023)
Rating: 8/10

This release from Athens, Greece-based Slaughtered Priest couldn’t be more metal with its cover artwork and album title. Recorded between 2019 and 2022, Bang Your Head For Satan is a volatile offering from an artist that’s been toiling away since 2007. This is the band’s sixth full-length outing and one which comes equipped with a whole host of satanic blasts, blasphemous raps and seething energy.

Slaughtered Priest have always been rather bewitching with their cacophony, and that continues here with the opening track ‘Torment The Chapel’ with its fizzing axe work and eerie female narration. If you’re not familiar with Slaughtered Priest then expect an assault so spiky and raw where vocals are spat out with such a venomous rasp and the sound in general is a horrifying primeval mesh of speed metal and black metal.

‘Symbol Of Lies’, ‘Rites Of Schizophrenia’, ‘Back To Hades’ and my favourite track ‘Unholy Command’ all boast a zipping aggression that harkens back to the vicious South American scene and those hideous, first waves of pitch black metal via Bathory and the more modern snaps of, say, Witchtrap (Colombia).

Vile, nasty and as sharp as a whip, Slaughtered Priest continue their black parade of blasphemy like an unholy alliance ploughing its way through a church congregation. Suitably wicked and sniping, this is another winner from the devilish cult.
