SISTERS OF SUFFOCATION
Eradication

Self-released (2022)
Rating: 8/10

Sixteen songs and 47 minutes long, Eradication is the third full-length offering from Dutch death metallers Sisters Of Suffocation. Originally an all-female clan, the band’s current line-up consists of Els Prins (vocals), Simone van Straten (lead guitar), Emmelie Herwegh (rhythm guitar), Tim Schellekens (bass) and Fons van Dijk (drums).

This is a strong release which once again exhibits the versatility of the sound as Sisters Of Suffocation drift from high energy technical death metal to unorthodox segments of melody as showcased on the excellent opening track ‘Buried In The Crowd’.

The combo provides short bursts of lethal thrash metal coupled with more intricate deathly designs. Most of the tracks are speedy but bring so many interesting ingredients as ‘Die Anyway’ once again employs a mix of aggressive vocal snaps, guttural tones and then clearer spirals.

Eradication is such an intriguing album which jam packs in so much hostility and pace, but you also get some great mid-paced brilliance such as with ‘Instinct / Extinct’, ‘Thick Red Meat’ and ‘Cannibal Soulmate’. But as equally riveting are the pacier numbers such as ‘Returning In A Cauldron’ and the devastating ‘The Chosen One’.

I’d argue that Sisters Of Suffocation is one of the most intriguing acts around but it’s also a band not fully complimented by its moniker, although I guess they are too far down the road now to alter it. For death metal with a difference, grab yourself a copy of Eradication.
