The snappy assault that is Ukraine’s Reabilitator pretty much sums up the thrash wave that descended upon us around 20 years ago. Reabilitator is a rather youthful and exuberant attack on the senses although one which suffers greatly from being generic in spite of its aggression.
With a current line-up of Dmytro Prasolov (vocals and drums), Andriy “SF” Narolskyi (guitar) and Oleksii “Crazymetalliman” Novikov (bass), this band from Zaporiyia are getting experienced in its tirades with Mentally Defected being their third full-length offering. Musically, it’s the usual Slayer-esque battering only less brooding. Imagine then Havok with that snappy vibe – especially in the vocals – which after a few listens begins to grate on the ears.
The album, which runs for 36 minutes, whizzes by with plenty of passion and kick and most of it is fast and furious. Opener ‘R.I.P. (Die In Agony)’ is not overly different from closer ‘Revolution’, and that’s the biggest issue here.
Reabilitator is standard, crunchy volatile thrash metal with no real intention of diversion. The same old thrash topics of disease (‘Deadly Infection’), devotion to thrash (‘Thrash Way Of Life’) and psychological torment (‘Mentally Defected’) yet all delivered with a rather annoying yap and the same, blurring breakneck speed. The die-hard thrashers will no doubt lap this up, but it’s a record that’ll soon be cast aside with the rest.
