PUTRID YELL
Consuming Aberration

Pulverised (2023)
Rating: 8/10

Suggesting that other commitments have gotten in the way, Chilean death metal clan Putrid Yell finally reveals its debut full-length album a decade since the band formed. Combing the expected South American rawness with a more unexpected 90s Swedish chainsaw gallop, this debut drags you headfirst into a shredder that is operated by the dehydrated vocal slurping of main man Will Aggressor, who took over duties in 2015.

Putrid Yell is a ravenous bunch that pukes up some seriously rabid compositions, with the rapid title track being a prime exampe, matched in pace by several other chunks such as ‘Forgotten Souls’ and ‘Charred Corpses’. However, for me the brace of tracks that really stand out are ‘Indescribable Evil Instinct’ and ‘Wrenching Putrid Yell’, both of which showcase the percussive brilliance of Sexphemous. The former song provides an almost thrash chug while the latter explodes like raking machine gun fire mowing down a horde of the undead.

Mid-tempo segments tend to be scarce here although this remains a ripping debut platter from a band that should’ve been on its third release by now, but while the wait has been a long one the end result is a rollickingly rotten one.
