MIDNIGHT SACRIFICE
Black Rock ‘N’ Roll

Self-released (2023)
Rating: 7/10

This Peruvian duo – namely Yawarx and Lobo Kaufman – wear their influences on their sleeve for what is an easy to explain guide to 80s Motörhead-cum-Bathory metal, led into further murkiness by guest vocalist Evil Fukker.

The clue here with this debut full-length is in the album title; rusty, billowing, greasy nuts n’ bolts black ‘n’ roll fuelled by the likes of Venom, Tank, old Sodom and old Destruction. ‘Burn The Fucking Church’, ‘Time To Die’, ‘Satan Spell’, ‘We Don’t Give A Fuck’, ‘Insane Metal Punks’, ‘Sex & Rock ‘N’ Roll’… do I need to explain any further?

Get the chainsaw out, get the beer out, strap on the bullet belt, climb into the leather jacket and whip up a satanic storm within the bowels of your whiskey-soaked pentagram. Or, just play old Bathory and Venom records instead. Either way you’ll still emerge coated in black, powdery soot as those clanking riffs do battle with an equally foul bass which in turn strikes hard in combat with the silted percussion.

Evil Fukker snarls and whips his tongue like some thirsty alcoholic serpent as sonic and sordid waves of black thrash invoke the ghost of Lemmy and Quorthon Seth to the enchanted dance of the goat-headed witch. It’s basic, it’s barbaric, and it’s the party of the year at the hell house of horror. Now, where did I put my motorcycle?
