MASTICATED CADAVER
Progression Towards Total Maceration

Self-released (2024)
Rating: 7/10

Now, I’ve never spent time in the depths of a sewer system and neither have I ever eaten pond algae, but after listening to Masticated Cadaver I feel like I’ve experienced both. Despite having reviewed the band’s debut 2023 demo Necrotic Mutation, I still know very little about this Ontario, Canada-based act but the indecipherable seaweed gurgling is enough to keep the murky mystery going.

This is simply gory grinding death whereby the chesty vocal phlegm acts as another instrument to add to the writhing heap of cistern slop. What you’ll get suffocated by are some seriously groovy riffs mixed with hairdryer blasts of vile bile; ‘Decay Within A Pool Of Excrement’ is a filthy example of such a marrying of mucus-coated drudgery.

At its most hyper, Masticated Cadaver is a frenzy, a gushing toilet flush of innards and other ungodly bowel discharge. ‘Decomposing Flesh’ has that twisted riffage coupled with goregrind vocal slurry and frantic cereal box drumming. Same can also be said for the oozing putridity of ‘Regurgitating Intestinal Parasites’ and the equally foul ‘Bloated Corpse’, an ultra heavy and slime filled gateau of churning splatter.

Yes, this an acquired taste and will only appeal to bog monsters and vomit drinkers, so I guess I may be one or both of those.
