HORRIFYING
Dreadful Parasomnia

Veins Full Of Wrath Productions (2024)
Rating: 7.5/10

In 2012 I picked up the debut demo from this Chilean death metal horde, but little did I expect then that it would take 12 years for the combo to reach full-length album status. Of course, the wait was worth it but I just hope the band doesn’t take so along with the next platter.

Horrifying boast that typical raw subterranean South American essence combined with a Morbid Angel-style of assault. Fast bursts of blurring horror, hail of tumultuous percussion and slower, macabre passages – these are the ingredients pivotal to making this such a good record as the title track rumbles with a formidable mid-paced groove to allow the deep, commanding vocals to waft like dense echoes of evil.

Opening cut ‘Sinister Chaotic Visions’ is a maelstrom of morbid speed wrapped up in a decidedly old school aesthetic whereby those primitive bouts of roaring aggression seamlessly merge with slow, doom-laden logs as evidenced on the grim trudges of ‘Wild Human Fragility’. But much of what is offered here veers towards the faster side. ‘Kathartic Trance’ and ‘Petrifying Hallucinations’ act as rancid gusts of thrashing death, while ‘Crawling Into Mental Obliteration’ and ‘Execrable Souls’ are a tad steadier but both maintain that rotten air.

This record also continues to show just how potent the Chilean scene is with bands like Resilient, Phantasmagore, Exanimatvm, Bleed, Disharmonic, Infamovs, Nigromancia, Sulphuric Death, Suppression, Baladro, Vilespawn, Sadistic and so many more clogging the drains. Good stuff from the gore hounds.
