Eternal Fire

One EP – Roots Of Democracy (2020) – and three singles is all this Mexican thrash act has offered since their inception in 2016, so it’s good to finally see a full-length release from Excavator. Very much of modern design, Eternal Fire may find itself swallowed amongst the glut of similar sounding death / thrash albums because after all, this outing does tend to get a tad tedious in spite of its aggressive nature.
The slower, more melodic passages are what entice me the most, but throughout things tend to get rather generic even with the passion, fury and metallic savagery on display. Excavator are good at what they do but there is nothing that truly stands out from the crowd.
Furious rattles led by typically growled vocals are the order of the day here, although it feels rather soulless in its contemporary bite. At times the drumming has a mechanical click which becomes rather annoying, but the band does vary the pace throughout from strong gallops to mid-paced hugging. However, nothing here sticks, and I’ve tried to give this one several attempts but it’s just not there… sorry guys.
