Lisbon, Portugal-based death thrashers Death Feast have battered us with a trio of devastating albums, including this latest release, since their inception in 2017. Risen From The Tomb<\/em> just charges from the coffin like a zombie with a rocket up its arse; the organic guitar tone, the graven vocal rasps and percussion that tolls like a rusty ol\u2019 bell.<\/p>\n

This is very much in the style of 80s South American annihilation where even the faster segments have that well-soiled, doomy feel. Naturally, because of its evil nature, this opus also takes heavy inspiration from the first wave of black metal acts such as Sodom, Bathory and obviously Venom. But whichever cloak of darkness it blankets us with, this remains a stuffy, snarling outing daubed in murky axe work which often results in some utterly morbid 80s glances, whether it\u2019s the evil chugging of \u2018Banish From Monastery\u2019 or the varying sepulchral shifts of \u2018Hell Funeral\u2019.<\/p>\n

Each track consumes its own fetid black smoke \u2013 it\u2019s the only way such rust-ridden metal can exist \u2013 but then there are those worming solos which squirm through the billowing fog. As dank as the grave and as pitch black as another night in the coffin, this repulsive heap fuses the vile tones of Sarc\u00f3fago, Mutilator et al and just confirms what we already knew about these midnight molesters \u2013 that they are despicable in every wretched department.<\/p>\n
