After a trio of singles, Lafayette, Louisiana-based thrashers Void gets round to a debut full-length assault and it\u2019s a decent one at that. The 80s inspired cover art is a good start, as are those chunky bass dribbles and clanking riffs.<\/p>\n

With Horrors Of Reality<\/em> you get served ten tracks, all of which are solid, snappy tunes with plenty of melody and at times a crossover charge, but this is mainly due to the interesting snorts of vocalist Jackson Davenport. At first I thought he might be somewhat of a confrontational one-trick pony, but when you hear a cut like \u2018Witching Hour\u2019 you get hit by his melodious strain on the chorus where the band slips into a Mordred-esque chime.<\/p>\n

There is a San Francisco Bay Area flavour to some of the segments, so caps off to the frenetic yet crisp axe work of Alexandre Bernard and Gabriel LeJeune. The likes of \u2018Feeding Frenzy\u2019 and \u2018Think Fast!\u2019 have that furious crossover \/ hardcore ranting style with hyper vocal chops and nifty riffs, but anyone who likes their thrash chugging will also revel in the likes of \u2018Lazarus\u2019 with its slower, menacing pace.<\/p>\n

This is certainly a rewarding offering even though a handful of tracks seem a tad too lengthy, but whether it\u2019s the raging \u2018Voodoo\u2019 with its squirming lead work, the juggernaut thrash groove of \u2018Godfather\u2019, or the mature and at times technical \u2018Mirror Maze\u2019, what is clear is the diversity of this combo within a crossover framework.<\/p>\n

Not bad at all for an act of young upstarts who began life in 2019. I expect a band like Void to fill the gap left by Power Trip whereby what they express is potent, muscular yet with a degree of melody.<\/p>\n
