I hadn’t heard Combat Shock previously but have since found out that the four-piece has released three demos and an EP since their formation in 2015.

The album kicks off with the excellent ‘Power Abuse’ where the Slayer influence, from the drums to the axe work, is very apparent, but the combo also drifts towards that Power Trip vibe. The likes of ‘Enemy’ and ‘The First Hour’ boast that infectious hardcore-cum-thrash chug, while ‘Warlord Of The Wasteland’ showcases the speed of the quartet. Combat Shock are not afraid to inject melody either. The title track closes things off and begins with a muscular chug and some fine solo work in-between, and ‘Death Sentence’ again exhibits the more hostile nature.

Everything Goes Wrong is a short and aggressive release made all the more robust through those shouty vocals, but for those keen to dust down the old skateboard and get political in the meantime, this is your new soundtrack.

Neil Arnold

COMBAT SHOCKEverything Goes Wrong Self-released (2022)Rating: 7/10 This debut full-length album from Saint Petersburg, Russia-based thrashers Combat Shock begins like mid-80s Slayer but laced with a crossover edging.
