Joensuu, Finland-based melodic death metal band Insomnium issued ninth full-length studio album Anno 1696<\/em> on February 24th, 2023 through Century Media Records.<\/p>\n

Anno 1696<\/em> was mixed by Jaime Gomez Arellano at Orgone Studios in Woburn, Bedforshire, and mastered by Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios in \u00d6rebro, Sweden.<\/p>\n

Rotting Christ frontman Sakis Tolis guests on the track \u2018White Christ\u2019, while Johanna Kurkela guests on the song \u2018Godforsaken\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Tors\u00e5ker witch trials were a horrible source of nightmarish inspiration,\u201d commented frontman Niilo Sev\u00e4nen, which transpired during 1696. \u201cAll that talk about 70 women beheaded in this small Swedish parish? It’s real stuff from history! And as if that weren’t enough, there are also some very dark tales of cannibalism and child murder from the years of the great famine.\u201d<\/p>\n
