Sergio Chamoso’s vocals are clear and soaring throughout as the quintet carves simplistic designs such as opener ‘Livin’ In The End’ and the devilish charge of ‘Spin The Roulette’.

The whole record feels smooth, soulful and concise, and if you’d purchased this in 1985 you’d have been content but not blown away. After all, back then there were so many acts like this ranging from Keel to Dagger, but I do like the way this little gem flows.

It’s not a complex record, but it’s certainly melodious. Led by Adrián Rica’s drums there’s a tinge of W.A.S.P. about the fiery initiation to instrumental ‘Visions’, while ‘Late To Return’ drives in an unsophisticated manner, evidence that this band is more than happy to pay homage to the likes of Lizzy Borden, Stryper and Dokken without being flashy or fussy. ‘Redhead Lady’ again features nice, fluid axe work, as does ‘Standing In The Twilight’ which is where I find the band meatier and hotter, while ‘Ghost Religion’ is darker and brooding.

Beware Of The Night is a cheery record, and I’d happily play this alongside that cracking Wanted debut Chain Reaction which offers similar melodious strains and crispness. A good, solid debut then from Invaders and wrapped in an eye-catching cover to match.

Neil Arnold

INVADERSBeware Of The Night Fighter (2022)Rating: 7/10 Invaders is a straight-up glinting Spanish metal act that worships the 80s and adds extra fuel to the fire with a competent cover rendition of Dokken’s ‘Into The Fire’ to round this debut full-length album off.
