Infected Alive is a twosome \u2013 Christian (vocals) and Javier (guitar) \u2013 from Guatemala and this is their first release, a three-track demo that\u2019s very much grisly death metal to the maximum.<\/p>\n

Opening track \u2018Punished And Tortured In The Abyss\u2019 combines some excellent heavyweight doomy moments with speedy segments. I\u2019m assuming the drums are programmed, but that\u2019s the only real negative of this release because this is some cavernous, lo-fi death metal daubed in slurping vocal traits.<\/p>\n

\u2018Burning Slowly\u2019 brings that rank Autopsy vibe as the duo resorts again to those faster bursts, but when the band slows they really are a formidable outfit. The guitars make you feel like you are trudging through rivers of human waste and congealed blood, such is the dragging drudgery \u2013 if only to have a dank, sodden percussion thud with it all, because the drums just click too much.<\/p>\n

The final cut \u2018Consumed By Malevolent Deities\u2019 is equally squalid, and again there are those guttural vocal echoes that resonate through the cold chambers of the ears.<\/p>\n

Infected Alive is a murky experience taking hints from the modern crowd too, more so those that revel in those filthy, rancid pits of gloom and spectral humidity. While Rotten And Tortured Flesh<\/em> is simply death metal, it has a certain vibe about it and I really hope the guys progress from here into something because there\u2019s so much potential with this demo.<\/p>\n

The death metal genre keeps on surprising me with how it is almost devolving, regressing into putrid swamps of weirdness and extreme wonder. Sort out that drum sound and Infected Alive will have you salivating from every orifice.<\/p>\n
