For me, the track fuses the Swedish buzzsaw guitar sound with an almost South American level of hostility, while the vocals have a more hardcore-cum-thrashy hostility. The music remains pretty fast-paced throughout as the band harken to the primitive ways of old Sepultura doused in a filthy layer of hammering crust.

The record doesn’t deviate from its path, and ‘Krysy’ is as equally malicious with levels of dissonance yet abrasive melody in the lead work. But it’s the title track, with its slow, doomy entrance chug, where I prefer the band. I love that dirty catchiness offered by so many bands with a real trudging gloom of swampy textures and rattling percussion. It’s also the catchiest track on the record, shifting into a tidy mid-tempo chug but still reeking of that old school Brazilian death / thrash design. For some reason the percussion really catches my attention, so kudos to Lukáš for his skin belligerence.

This is certainly a violent record, and ‘Surfování na vlnách chaosu’ is a prime example of the band’s primitive ways. Meanwhile, ‘Paměť’ has a furious, almost industrialised feel, especially with its initial drum and bass clanking, but again it sets off as another scalding, seething attempt at death thrash fusing.

Basically, wherever you enter this album you’ll be savagely beaten by its primordial gnashing. At times it does get a bit generic but it doesn’t give a damn for the listener, just hammering away with those vocal shouts like it was the last day on the planet.

Neil Arnold

ENTRAPPEDPohřebiště Popela Filfth Junkies (2022)Rating: 7/10 From the South Bohemian Region of Czechia comes crusty death metal act Entrapped.
