Razor are another in the new breed of Canadian metal acts that are currently keeping the Maple Leaf mayhem flag flying high.<\/p>\n

This four-piece from Guelph, Ontario play hard and furious power metal, which in the main has all the power and controlled speed technique of fellow countrymen Exciter; in my opinion one of the current leaders in this field now that previous trend setters Metallica have, shall we say, matured.<\/p>\n

The best and certainly the fastest of the seven cuts on this mini-LP is \u2018Take This Torch\u2019. A ten star classic power metal frenzy, even if the chorus chant of \u201cTake This Torch\u201d sounds a lot like Metallica\u2019s \u2018Hit The Lights\u2019<\/a>. Listen also for some excellent soloing from Dave Carlo.<\/p>\n

\u2018Hot Metal\u2019, \u2018Ball And Chain\u2019 and particularly the title track are not far behind in the intense mayhem stakes. However, \u2018Killer Instinct\u2019 and \u2018The End\u2019 are of only average standard. The final cut though, \u2018Fast And Loud\u2019, is nothing less than the title suggests.<\/p>\n

True, the production could be a lot better, but overall this is a fine debut, especially when you consider that this is a totally independent release funded by the band themselves.<\/p>\n
