\nWhat the hell am I doing in Davenport, Iowa? Kim Fowley wants me in LA, and Diamond Rexx want me in Chicago. Well, I\u2019m here for a good reason; I\u2019m talking about Iowa\u2019s biggest export, and it ain\u2019t corn. No, it\u2019s Lynn Allen.<\/p>\n

A voice screams over the huge PA: \u201cLet\u2019s hear it for the best in the Mid-West \u2013 Lynn Allen!\u201d. The packed venue goes nuts as the band launches into \u2018Take It Off\u2019, a cut I hadn\u2019t heard before. It\u2019s plainly obvious right from the start that vocalist Billy Peiffer has that certain charisma that puts him leagues above the rest. Everything he does the crowd laps up, and it really is astonishing to see it happen. Drummer Bobby Boyd and guitarist Tim Compton look like they\u2019ve come straight out of Ozzy Osbourne\u2019s band; the moves, the looks and the unbelievably tight musicianship.<\/p>\n

\u2018She\u2019s Looking At Me\u2019 shows the band don\u2019t even stop for a breather. Power and class unite in a deadly partnership that\u2019s gonna be the band\u2019s claim to major success.<\/p>\n

The girls go especially crazy on a cut from the band\u2019s We Laugh At You<\/em> project, titled \u2018Last Night\u2019. Apparently, this little ditty is a smoocher\u2019s classic in Davenport; it certainly got a big thumbs up on the night. \u2018Last Night\u2019 is definitely different for Lynn Allen, being a lot more balladic than anything else they do.<\/p>\n

\u2018Strangers\u2019 is a new cut the band have been working with for a while and it seems to go down extremely well; definitely Lynn Allen\u2019s step into the almost modern pop sound. \u2018Depending On You\u2019 is definitely aimed at the heavier element of the crowd and is probably my favourite number. The band close with \u2018Can\u2019t Stay Away\u2019, and more power rock beyond ecstasy. God, this sure beats the Marquee on a good night!<\/p>\n

So is Iowa finally on the rock\u2019n\u2019roll map? Well, from the strength of this gig I would say yes. Some big names will be working with the band in the coming months, so something positive should come of this. Hopefully, the bands first European release is only a stone\u2019s throw away.<\/p>\n
