Dutch symphonic metal group Epica issued seventh full-length studio album The Holographic Principle<\/em> on September 30th, 2016 through Nuclear Blast Records.<\/p>\n

The band commented: \u201cThe Holographic Principle<\/em> deals with the near future wherein virtual reality has taken off and allows people to create their own virtual worlds which can\u2019t be distinguished from \u2018reality as we know it”. This raises the question whether our current reality is a kind of virtual reality on itself, a hologram. This implies the existence of a higher reality which we currently do not have access to. The lyrics challenge you to think out of the box, to reconsider everything you thought to know for sure and to be open-minded towards recent revolutions in science. Fasten your seat belts and get ready for a ride as nothing appears to be what it seems in our holographic universe.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Holographic Principle<\/em> was recorded with producer Joost van der Broek at Sandlane Recording Facilities in Rijen, Netherlands between December 2015 and May 2016. Mixing duties fell to Jacob Hansen at Hansen Studios in Ribe, Denmark.<\/p>\n

Music videos were filmed for the tracks \u2018Edge Of The Blade\u2019, \u2018Beyond The Matrix\u2019 and an acoustic version of \u2018Universal Death Squad\u2019, while a live performance video was released for the track \u2018Dancing In A Hurricane\u2019; the latter was filmed by Panda Productions during the band\u2019s show at Le Z\u00e9nith in Paris, France on February 4th, 2017. In addition, official lyric videos were created for the songs \u2018Universal Death Squad\u2019 and \u2018Ascension – Dream State Armageddon\u2019. All six clips can be viewed below.<\/p>\n

Sixth studio record The Quantum Enigma<\/em> was released<\/a> in May 2014.<\/p>\n
