The band were formed by ex-Assault axeman Gordon Ancis who recruited bassist Tony Marc (also ex-Assault) and drummer and lead vocalist Tommy Carroll, formerly with Corrupt.<\/p>\n<p>Despite a rather poor quality rehearsal tape, it\u2019s obvious that Mayhem have more to offer than pure mindless thrash. The material, which is strictly hardcore (or \u2018deathcore\u2019, as the band describe it), is still developing, but the mixture of out-and-out thrash with controlled tempo changes shows plenty of imagination, with the instrumentation being above average. However, I can\u2019t say I go a bundle on the blatant punk vocals.<\/p>\n<p>Of the five numbers available I would say that \u2018Deathwish\u2019 and \u2018Mayhemic Destruction\u2019 are probably the best, but it\u2019s all unbelievably intensive stuff and I\u2019m certainly not gonna argue with Mayhem\u2019s claim of being the fastest band around today!<\/p>\n<p>By the way, Tony Marc, who appears on the demo, has recently been replaced by ex-Smegma bassist Craig Setari.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bernard Doe<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><i>Review taken from Metal Forces, Issue 12 (1985)<\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MAYHEM (N.
