Walt Woodward III, former drummer for the likes of Americade, Shark Island and The Scream, died on June 8th, 2010 at the age of 51 from liver failure caused by alcohol poisoning.<\/p>\n

Walter John Woodward III was born on February 10th, 1959 in Paterson, New Jersey. Residing in Monrovia, California for a time, the sticksman returned to the Paterson area to be closer to his family. <\/p>\n

Woodward III played with several acts in the New York \/ New Jersey area during the late 70s \/ early 80s, including Tyrant, Rachel (featuring future Riot vocalist Rhett Forrester) and Americade; appearing on the latter\u2019s debut album American Metal<\/em> in 1982. For a three day period in March 1982, Woodward III was reportedly a part of Twisted Sister\u2019s personnel.<\/p>\n

Woodward III moved to California in the mid-80s, performing with bands such as Dr. Starr And The MD\u2019s, Sweet Savage and Shark Island, for whom he played on the band\u2019s independently released 1986 debut album S\u2019cool Buss<\/em>. He subsequently joined the ranks of hard rock ensemble The Scream, replacing Scott Travis. Travis had parted ways with The Scream (then known as Saints Or Sinners) in 1989 to become a member of Judas Priest, filling the position vacated by Dave Holland. Woodward III remained with The Scream until their 1993 demise, the band issuing a lone full-length during 1991 in the form of Let It Scream<\/em>. The Scream toured the United States in that time, as well as being featured on MTV<\/em>. In addition, Woodward III performed with surf guitarist Dick Dale, which included a world tour.<\/p>\n

Returning to the New Jersey area in the mid-90s, Woodward III played in various local groups including The Painkillers.<\/p>\n

Walt Woodward III was survived by his mother Elaine, sisters Jan and Nadine, and brother Steve. He was predeceased by his father Walt.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
