Vying for space among Finland\u2019s unearthly death metal hordes is M\u00e4d\u00e4tys, a foursome which formed in 2021 out of Oulu. The mob merges death n\u2019 doom, the result being eight tracks which spiral into the cavernous regions of old Incantation.<\/p>\n

From fast cold blasts of foul air to predominantly slower, suffocating trajectories of terror, the clan still manages to inject some very melodic parts, particularly with the solo work. Opening cut \u2018H\u00e4nen ikuisen valonsa katveessa\u2019 hits like a dismal raging blizzard. One can feel the mould spores speckling the lungs as for seven-minutes the track heaves its ten ton arse through the nocturnal void.<\/p>\n

Drummer Jani Pitk\u00e4nen is an absolute savage, his kit taking the full force of his primal slams furthermore through the lumbering \u2018Sairas maailma\u2019 and the colossal \u2018Unohdetut rukoukset\u2019. Although not as expansive or dragging as some releases within the genre, this opus successfully maintains a foul atmosphere where images of cold damp black walls are conjured and ominous echoes resonate.<\/p>\n

The shortest track, \u2018Kirous\u2019, brings a billowing bluster to proceedings, the percussion literally gnashes and mashes in conjunction with the grim riffage. It\u2019s back to dismal clanking horror for \u2018Sin\u00e3 joudut Helvettiin\u2019, a truly ghastly mid-paced chugger draped in goat\u2019s guts and stomping like an angry golem. The miserable mob opts for more of a funeral doom style on closer \u2018Liekehtiv\u00e3 virta\u2019; sombrely it oozes as the drums toll intermittently towards the last breath. The end.<\/p>\n
