There’s a new vocalist on board in the form of Dewi Robinson as well as a new recruit in the bass department with Matt Moore. They join guitarists Evan Rise (lead) and Dannedd Sansom (rhythm) and drummer Ethan English.

Abysmal Earth features five songs, the first being ‘No Longer Human’, a churning, bowel-removing riff monster with an aggressive vocal stance. There’s plenty of pace, driven by the hammering drums. It’s not got a hardcore stance as such, but there are hints of a streetwise and very confrontational belligerence, particularly in the voice chops.

‘Sworn To Silence’ has a bit of an Anthrax vibe initially, chugging with a menace before the standard jerk into fury. There’s definitely a sway towards a darker death-thrash style, but that doesn’t mean the mob has sacrificed melody. ‘My Volition’ has an almost punky backdrop, particularly in the drum patterns, but Robinson ensures that the combo remains in line with his ferocious yaps and chops.

‘Murder Messiah’ is sandwiched in the middle of the EP and its indicative of how Exaust operates now. It’s a fierce rush of serious driving thrash that is far better suited to today’s muscular movers, and so to an extent Exaust are a bit generic at times. Having said that, this is still a hostile EP to keep the UK underground scene festering.

Neil Arnold

EXAUST Abysmal Earth EP Self-released (2025) Rating: 6/10 Some seriously heavy thrash is on the agenda with the new EP from Welsh act Exaust.
