Cryptify is a five-piece from Zagreb in Croatia and they play thrashy death metal, and it’s really enjoyable.

I’m going to be keeping a beady eye on these guys because the four songs presented are good efforts. As soon as the title track starts you’re nodding along to the kicking drum. It’s incredibly catchy stuff as skinsman Gabriel Juriša leads the posse. Strangely, this is not exactly heavyweight material, but it just has something refreshing in its galloping. Distinctly thrashy, the sound doesn’t necessarily remind me of anyone but there are hints of Master, simply due to the combination of death n’ thrash. Vocalist Aquila Mikuška has an interesting choppy style not too far removed Nocturnus singer Mike Browning.

‘Skineater’ adopts a similar pattern and those drums groove hard again. It’s not punky, just catchy and in tandem with the riffs and driving bass line. It’s unusual to hear something in the genre that’s simple yet refreshing. ‘Blazing Chemical Inferno’ has a slight blackened tinge to its deathly nature, while closer ‘Cathedral Of Rot’ offers a mid-paced respite before kicking into gear once again, but this time there is an anarchic punk feel. The drums alone are what drew me to this self-released EP, so don’t sleep on Cryptify and support the underground.

Neil Arnold

CRYPTIFY Invocation Of The Wicked Gods EP Self-released (2025) Rating: 7/10 Invocation Of The Wicked is a highly recommended debut EP from a band that’s new on the block.
