Vela (guitar), Beñat Mendizabal Vela (keyboards and guitar) and Joseba Segura (bass). I’m unsure who plays the drums on the album but they do an adequate job.

Although this is very much a rock album, the insertion of synths bring a colour and vibrancy. I still think the band is yet to fully find their feet although there’s a great energy on songs like ‘Raptor Eyes’, but what I really like about the album is the borderline thrash stuff (‘Blind Fury Murderess’), the flirtation with New Wave Of British Heavy Metal (‘Break After All’) and an almost 70s prog-pop sensibility (‘Stuck In The Show’) where the synths provide jovial jabs.

The album continues to surprise within its rock framework mostly due to the clever subtleties. Countess Of The Night does have that charm of a Satanic Rites or Runestaff release, distinctly 80s but with an almost late 70s British vibe; a feeling of being under produced and unintentionally obscure. ‘A.R. Command’ begins with a bluesy swagger, mixing Led Zeppelin with a George Lynch (Dokken) style of strut.

The vocals could benefit from a bit more punch, at times they seem a touch frail in the mix, such as on stark ballad ‘Nightincage’, but overall this album appeals due to its flaws and slightly unorthodox compositions.

Neil Arnold

AEROSCREAMERCountess Of The Night Self-released (2025)Rating: 6.5/10 Although still unsigned, Spanish female-led band Aeroscreamer is making quite the name for themselves in the underground scene.
