California-based band really knows how to rock. I heard their self-titled debut demo in 2023 and hoped somewhat that Angel Fury might come back with a full-length, but instead the female-fronted act teases us with four songs at a total duration of just under 15 minutes.

Vocalist Luna Salvaje is quite the force of nature; her tone varies from a low scowl to something clear and bombastic. What Angel Fury do is very simple, a standard but well driven style of straight laced heavy metal that never veers from its chosen path. The EP begins with namesake song ‘Angel Fury’ where Luna drags the song through a somewhat clunky rhythm that is typical of today’s throwback metal worship. It’s safe, reliable but often stodgy and uninspiring.

Trundling innocently, Angel Fury only brush with weight, but there are elements of haste, especially with the title track. The instruments are clear and precise even if there is little in the way of originality. Hints of Warlock appear throughout, and some of the lyrics are joyously naive (“From where’d it come? Flashing lit up in the sky. Where did it go? They heard it crash in the desert” – ‘Majic Eyes’), but a charm can be found within the folds. For example, ‘The Forsaken One’ is a mid-tempo cut that sizzles with nostalgia and Luna really does come into her own here, her tones have a mesmeric quality amidst the crackling fires of the guitars. “Far away, across the shadow of sin, across the light, the gates opened for me,” she croons, effectively leading the audience into the gloom.

‘Chasing Tomorrow’ wraps things up in upbeat, skipping fashion as the sprightly combo channels 80s New Wave Of British Heavy Metal but with extra strikes of steely grace. Majic Eyes is a tidy EP – nothin’ fancy – and if you crave a quick shot of metal in the veins without too much thinking required, then digest this.

Neil Arnold

ANGEL FURYMajic Eyes EP Self-released (2025)Rating: 6.5/10 It’s a shame this is just an EP because this Los Angeles.
