Based around the Borderlands video game series, Injector’s albums have made for quite an interesting listen over the years and Endless Scorn is another solid entry to the band’s catalogue.

If you’ve experienced any of Injector’s previous outings – Black Genesis (2015), Stone Prevails (2018) and Hunt Of The Rawhead (2020) – then you’ll know what to expect. Even with a new drummer on board (Juanjo Beast) Injector stick to their raging serious thrash assault, churning out grey metallic slabs embedded very much in the modern Teutonic era via the bruising tremors of Destruction and a more refined and contemporary Bay Area tumult.

Considering how the band focuses on their striking cover art, Injector serves up quite colourless thrash in contrast. Even so, there’s a lot of brutality here, particularly with the monstrous ‘Path Of The Wrathgod’ where the vocals of guitarist Dani MVN shift between snaps, guttural bellows and melodic harmonies, especially on the chorus. Like most of the tracks though, ‘Path Of The Wrathgod’ is quite the aggressive experience built upon a foundation of strong, punchy bass and hefty, hyper riffs. Hints of latter day Testament creep in as the mechanics drive like great glistening pistons of power.

Admittedly, I’m left cold by some of the belligerent grooves here but there’s no doubting the potency as a majority of songs prove to be a more refined yet colourless mix of Overkill, Pantera, Metal Church and Annihilator. Subtlety does emerge, more so with instrumental ‘The End Of Eternity’ and ‘The Executioner’s Song’, although the metallic barrages follow close behind. ‘Mindcrusher’ is standard fare, but then again I wouldn’t expect anything else from a song with such a title. ‘Never Enter The Core’ boasts some serious shredded axe work and ‘Warning Blast’ jars the spine with its shuddering bass and battering percussion.

Hard boiled thrash to the hilt, Endless Scorn is most definitely the strongest Injector opus to date; a precise and formidable bone scraping slab of cold steel that refuses to have fun.

Neil Arnold

INJECTOREndless Scorn Art Gates (2024)Rating: 7/10 With their fourth full-length assault since forming in 2012, Spanish thrashers Injector treat us once again with some excellent sci-fi artwork.
