It\u2019s always good to see these German thrash veterans marching through the decades. Rebirthless<\/em> is the 13th full-length studio album of their career and remarkably, the band\u2019s seventh since reforming in 2009. Accu\u00a7er still has a lot to give even if they remain a mid-table thrash act.<\/p>\n

Rebirthless<\/em>, the first to feature guitarist Sascha Stange, is still more of the same solid raucous thrash with enough catchy riffs to get you headbanging for days. The cover artwork is based on the painting \u2018La rvolte des Enfers contre le Ciel (The revolt of the hell against the heaven)\u2019 by Antoine Joseph Wiertz and it somewhat epitomises the fury within, particularly with the potent vocal delivery of guitarist Frank Thoms. Frank Kimpel\u2019s bass provides a sturdy enough backbone to what is essentially a straight up assault, heightened by the drumming of Oliver Fechner.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no filler here, just consistent bruising metal and standouts are many. My first few spins plucked \u2018Painted Cruelty\u2019 as a favourite and then my attention switched to \u2018Fear Denied\u2019 before I was eventually rinsed by \u2018When Desperation Scorns\u2019. However, as with a majority of Accu\u00a7er albums, consistency is key and weight is maintained alongside aggression.<\/p>\n

Opening tirade \u2018Violent Vanity\u2019 is the band at their most brutish, expelling a tirade of smoking, speeding riffs to the volatile bursts from Thoms. \u2018Ghost Of Disease\u2019 boasts a Slayer<\/a> vibe in its structure, but while there are a few nods to the rawness which made the band so captivating back in the 80s, Rebirthless<\/em> is very much a modern thrash record. Unfortunately, even with all its obvious qualities (\u2018Spiritual Recipients\u2019 is superb, as is the hyper thrash of \u2018Faded Remorse\u2019) I don\u2019t see Rebirthless<\/em> as an album I\u2019ll return to a great deal, but that\u2019s no reflection on Accu\u00a7er.<\/p>\n

Still going strong, Accu\u00a7er can never be questioned when it comes to talent and commitment, but over the years the competition has been so fierce that my record collection somewhat swallowed them up, and the same may happen again. However, don\u2019t let that detract from the fact that Rebirthless<\/em> is another strong opus from this ever reliable force.<\/p>\n
