To put it simply, this album is a 42 minute groove machine that is comfortable in its own skin as an often mid-range beast given extra gristle by the deep, scowling vocals.

If you like bulky chainsaw riffs which occasionally slip into hastier grinds daubed in Swedish atmosphere then you’ll no doubt lap up such joys as the sneering ‘Pit Of Despair’, the similarly grisly ‘Absolute Zero Subsistence’ and the more melodious ‘SnoVVolveS’. The tempo varies throughout but not greatly, although some of the shifts into slower buzz are appreciated by my ears.

‘Into Canalisation’ makes for a timely autumnal horror score interlude before the burly chugs of ‘CO2 THC’ kick in. ‘The Doorlit’ oozes like a doom metal version of Entombed or Dismember as a melancholic lead pierces the dense gloom. The steady rhythms of ‘Wall Of Delusive Horizon’ showcase further catchy momentums as the dismal combo grinds further into the skull.

Many a band has adopted the Swedish design over the decades, many of which bore me rigid with their dull mimicry, but Deceitome, bolstered by those evil vocals, succeed where many have failed.

Neil Arnold

DECEITOMEDeceitome Raw Skull Recordz (2024)Rating: 7.5/10 Grinding like an Estonian version of Entombed, Tallinn-based Deceitome delivers a solid sophomore full-length outing dripping with a vicious HM-2 tone.
