Embarking on their debut full-length journey is Hamburg, Germany-based foursome Fatal Collapse. The first few seconds of this outing sounds like an eerie intro that Slayer<\/a> would churn up, but after that Fatal Collapse dabbles in a robust style of groove metal that\u2019s far more contemporary than I imagined it would be.<\/p>\n

The vocals of Niklas are deep and gritty as the rest of the band carves out meaty urban crossover that seems more comfortable with mid-paced dynamics as \u2018Mental Annihilation\u2019 kicks things off. The band is extremely confrontational in its approach; the riffs of Buddy are accessible but bruising, bulldozing their way through the landscape and stirring up a mid-to-late 90s vibe.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a bluntness to Fatal Collapse but also a punkiness as \u2018They Lie\u2019 proves with its almost upbeat riff and kicking drum. \u2018Serial Killer’, although still finding a groove, veers towards a violent death-thrash accompanied by its lyrical profanity. There are faster passages littered throughout the album too, so the combo is quite happy to mix things up to create a sound that sounds reminiscent of latter day Slayer.<\/p>\n

The title track has a moshing chug to its style, but again those gnarly vocals take it into darker, grittier territory. However, whichever route Fatal Collapse takes you can be sure that they\u2019ll get your head banging along to those muscular attacks. This is a solid debut offering and although not blessed with thrills it still has the impact of a punch to the face.<\/p>\n
